BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Do you know the five R’s of facial rejuvenation? I learned them from noted dermatologist, Dr. Vic Narurkar, whom I interviewed for a magazine article some time ago. More recently we met again when he wrote a chapter for my book, Tick Tock Stop the Clock ~ Getting Pretty on Your Lunch Hour.

Here are those five R’s:

Resurfacing with lasers, Relaxing with Botox (botulinum toxin), Refilling with dermal fillers, Retaining with skin care and Redraping with surgical options. The first four R’s, the ones which do not involve surgical procedures, are the work of the cosmetic dermatologist. The fifth R, Redraping, is the work of the plastic surgeon. Those first four R’s, the ones  that do not involve surgical procedures, are known as TNSR or Total Non-Surgical Rejuvenation.

Although we have little control over our inherited genes and their contribution to the rate at which our skin ages, we do have control over environmental and behavioral factors that contribute to aging skin. Our genes to large degree dictate loss of facial volume, bone regression and skin redundancy. But we can control our sun exposure, smoking, diet, skin care products and medications.

A skilled esthetician or cosmetic dermatologist is your best friend when seeking both preventive measures and non-surgical solutions to anti-aging skin care.

    • Yes, Gregory, no doubt that is true. My derm has been a great help to me in the past – especially when I have been suffered with blistering poison ivy that was keeping me awake at night! Are you a dermatologist by any chance?

      Warm regards,
